Second Man Accused Over Lorencia Killing

A SECOND man has been arraigned in connection with the murders of ten-year-old Lorencia Walkes and another man.

Donald Cox, 24, was arraigned before Magistrate Andrew Forbes and charged for the May 29 shooting incident that claimed the lives of the fifth grader and Perron Bain. Cox was also accused of attempting to murder Leroy Sands on the same day.

This comes after Delanzo Cartwright, 24, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt charged with the two killings and attempted murder on June 11.

At the scene of the crime, ASP Audley Peters reported that shortly after 1pm a group of people were gathered in front of a residence at Belville Circle, off Iguana Way, when a gold coloured vehicle approached the residence.

A police crime report noted three men armed with firearms exited the vehicle, walked towards the gathering, and opened fire in the group’s direction.

Police explained that three people were shot and one of the victims died from their injuries on the scene. Three people were taken to hospital, two as a result of gunshot wounds and the third as a result of injuries sustained while attempting to flee the scene, police initially said. More than a week after the shooting, the 10-year-old died in hospital.

Cox was not required to enter a plea and the case was adjourned to October 8 for service of a voluntary bill of indictment.

He was denied bail, but is able to apply for pre-trial release at the Supreme Court. The accused was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
