A MAN was arraigned in Magistrate’s Court yesterday, accused of punching a police officer and acting disorderly at a police station.
Edwin Thompson III, 27, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes after he was accused of causing harm to Reserve Police Constable 718 Taylor on June 14. He was also charged with acting in a disorderly manner while at the Elizabeth Estates Police Station that same day.
Prosecutor Lincoln McKenzie said around 10.40pm that night, PC Taylor was on duty in the cell block area of the Elizabeth Estates Police Station, when he approached the defendant who was acting in a disorderly manner. Sgt McKenzie said when PC Taylor asked Thompson III to refrain from doing so, he punched the officer in his right eye.
During the hearing, Thompson III denied the allegations and the matter was adjourned to Sept 29 for trial. Bail was denied and he was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services in the interim. He has a right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
